Who is Aquafauna Bio-Marine?
Aquafauna Bio-Marine, Inc. (ABM)
was founded in 1977 as a provider to the tropical aquaculture sector supplying
larval diets, maturation and broodstock conditioning diets, and equipment. During the 1980’s, ABM was involved in over 65% of
all marine shrimp, scallop, and fish hatcheries constructed in the Americas and
during the 1990’s, over 90% of all hatcheries constructed in Mexico and
Central America. Aquafauna Bio-Marine, Inc. has also fully supplied over seventy hatcheries in India, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Myan Mar through private
and public institutions like USAID, United Nations F.A.O., and Asian Development
Bank.
First larval feeds offered in
1977 was the Brazilian strain of Artemia cysts. Since then, over twenty other
diets have been offered for tropical crustacea, finfish, and bivalve sectors. In
the past five years, ABM has worked with high-tech companies like Monsanto and
BASF to perfect component ingredients that are high in HUFA/PUFA which are
essential for developing larvae of most finfish and crustacea. Some of these
diets are designed to make life easier on the aquaculturist and not necessarily
designed for the larval stages, but for rotifer culture and enrichment stages
for both rotifers and Artemia.
ABM has also been a pioneer in
closed system maturation and hatchery systems for bio-security. We have several
units exceeding 200 m.t. in operation for maturation broodstock programs. For
further information, see our website at:

ABM is also related to ASICo (Aquatic Stock Improvement Company, which
specializes in the development of DNA microsatellite genetic markers for use in
selective breeding and domestication programs in finfish, crustacea, and bivalve
industries. Further information on our genetics division can be gotten from www.ASICoaquaticmarkers.com
